…Christmas time in the city. Can you hear “dem” ring? Words I’ll look back on and regret. Possibly. It was my choice to write that improperly.
Sucks that my crazy weekend is over. made time for everything: concerts, movies, hockey, eating with friends & family, and I did some writing! We’ve began the countdown to the end. Each Fav 25 post is gonna drop at midnight every day for 25 days. Cold War Kids’ Hold My Home is just the latest in the series.
Got a pretape to do now. I’ll interrupt your afternoon/evening with some glorious new intermissions & interludes. Take it away Mr. Wonder-ful.
Floating in the void…within the realm of “Her”…is Majid Jordan. The slow tempo’d track has abstract visuals that works well. The track is a beast, thus making liquidized Bond opening title experience certainly one to experience.
The new J. Cole. Writing on that Forest Hills Drive (out now!). The uplifting & deeply personal “Apparently” has J. Cole confronting his thoughts in dark empty rooms with video screens. Truth.
If you’re not feeling the beginning…which I’d say, da f*ck…wait until verse three. Showcases the wild moments that you’ll receive on the record. Hope you can keep up.
Morning! Jessie J continues to work on her “Masterpiece”. It’s a track about bashing away criticism & being her own women. The video follows Jessie over the course of the day. From when she awakes till she ends the day dancing with all her fans. Which can be quite revealing (see below)…
Being trapped in Roman’s sex prison doesn’t look that bad. Just lose all the dudes, allow more whips, & keep Nicki Minaj in that outfit. Got me like. The verses on this one are top notch. Watching Drake rap to Nicki will make you laugh out loud. Otherwise, kind of video you expect from YMCMB.
Tiesto has put his stamp on one of 2013/2014 most iconic track. The drop isn’t as powerful as I hoped, but for a free download the second half…when Beyonce’s voice is missing…is just glorious. Lack of Jay Z is disturbing though.
The Weeknd set the internet on fire last night by offering his contribution to the much anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey Soundtrack. The track incorporates the filmic strings to present a pretty conventional love song. Sure the track feels a bit darker in tone based on the subject matter. But I was expecting something viciously sexy based off the hype. Consider this track more PG-13 than NC-17.
Bounce. Bounce. Wiz Khalifa invites his friends, Ty Dolla $ign & Snoop Dogg, to join in pastel celebration that is “You and Your Friends”. The track is banger. The video is the rap equivalent of the new age Neon Trees. Except you got Snoop Dogg!
And we’re back! Hope you all had a fantastic kick-off to 2015. I had a major staycation. Only left SCV on Saturday to experience A Most Violent Year & cash in on my holiday Amoeba gift certificates. The film was stellar. As critics put it, Jessica Chastain’s character was a tour de force and should’ve been more of a focal point. Nothing against Oscar Issac. He was great in his own right. Can’t say it’s necessary to see it in theaters though. Great film.
Took me a full day to wrap up Serial. Happy with its open ended conclusion. I made my mind up on his guiltiness during episode two – the diary episode. My mind did switch back and forth. However, that was due to Jay’s involvement. Next time. I’m gonna come in halfway through the season.
Had time to think in the silence of the days now past. “What does 2015 hold for our little site,” I kept asking myself. Well. progression. I just bought my first DSLR camera. A nikon. Stay tune to my twitter for excited mentions. Part of me acknowledges that not every show is gonna be shot in this new pristine format. Just select shows. Mostly with new faces. That’s fine. Gonna make sure that new musicians are the focus. With my focus. Evolution is apart of my objective. No need to be stale.
Also…expect a new song every morning. 365 days of music.Sure it’s a HUGE order on my part. One I hope not to fail at. These 1st songs are so much fun to present. Despite all the typos and grammar mistakes. I’m trying not to rush. Just kind of hard when I’m up against the clock.
Promise to keep moving forward. More goals for 2015.
Pretapes again. Gotta make some dirty HORZs, (inside joke between me and myself). People’s Choice…which I’m not working in over 6 Years…happens tonight so our timetable has increased. Not much to say really. Today’s looking like it’s gonna be a bad one. Please wish me luck. Hopefully, there is something cool to interlude with by the end of it. Yesterday was so slow musically. Spent most of the time listening to YouTube.
No matter what…remember, I love the way you move to this track.
The vivacious Lily Elise has debuted the sultry new music video for her second single off the upcoming 2015 EP – Taken. Lily might sound familiar as made her name for herself while apart of Christina Aguilera’s squad on Season 1 of the Voice. She’s matured into a great buzzworthy talent that is chalking up huge amount of talk this year.
“Suitcases” is a heavy song with such colorful pop-r&b influences. The lyrics speak to dealing with an emotionally unavailable partner and all the baggage they are carrying around with them. A true challenge, but the song and video does a wonderful job showcasing what Lily sings about. The lens flares give the romantic tug of war the perfect fighting glow.
She has a particular set of skills…to make your heart swoon. Expect more as Taken transports you away very soon.
Damn. Talk about NSFW. Guys, don’t say I never showcase worthy clips for ya.
Jeremih and J. Cole’s “Plane” has been blowing up the internet for the past few days. I failed to share the track expecting a video to drop sooner than later. Boy was I right. Jeremih’s “Planes” doesn’t have a plane in it…unless you count these legs spreading their wings in flight. Like a pilot. But that’s the point of the song after all.
Ever wonder what an R. Kelly birthday celebration looks like? Well…dream no further. It is a wild affair that will leave your mouth open wide as R. Kelly does damage in Hotel Rooms & Club Floors. I’m not surprised that this isn’t real-life footage from the actually events from earlier this month. I mean…they have a “Make It Rain” Gun! Can I add that my list? Please.
Ah. If I only I had that much dinero and was sad on the inside.
(Kept hitting pauses while writing this because of dat ass below BTW!)
Good morning! I’m out walking. Enjoying the weekend as the sun sets on 30. But got a treat for you. That I do.
If you’re waking up just now and need a nice performance to settle in to, then enjoy Charles Bradley’s amazing 2011 performance of “Why Is It So Hard” from Austin. You will be grooving while sipping those fresh brewed beans.
Even though he’s featured as a under-carder at Coachella…Charles & the boys are gonna hit the right notes under that crisp California sun. Guaranteed. You’ll never come across another with more soul. Make sure you seek him out.
I first heard “FourFiveSeconds” on the road back from Long Beach. Twice. In a row. Two different stations. The radio loved the acoustic trio. Rihanna really kills it.
Christian Rich took a day to pepper the track, punching up the guitar strings and adding classical electronic distortions that transforms a beautiful song into a trippy one.
Light those candles. The voices from my generation are making a comeback.
Open your ears and check out the sexy, vintage ’90s, throwback reunion track from DeVante, Mr. Dalvin, K-Ci and JoJo better known as Jodeci. Oh boy. This sh*t is so classic that I feel like I’m rocking to a cassette tape. Who needs new tricks? Just keep the formula the same Jodeci and maybe I won’t put down your upcoming effort.
Good morning. Yes, another Weeknd track. As the second headliner on Saturday’s Coachella line-up, he’s gonna be stiff competition for Jack White. Since our inception back in 2010, Abel & the guys have made many appearances in these blurbs. “The Morning” is such a dark track to kick off the day. I do love the first verse. The way it slowly moves to the chorus. The visuals he describes.
Long day ahead. Not in the usual way. No concert to speak about. Just a brilliant all-star comedy event featuring many of my favorite acts – Mulaney, Kroll, Conan, Sarah, etc. This is technically my first showcase of 2015. Gonna start counting comedy shows under my Showcase label. There won’t be pictures. Just my flawed words describing things unseen by your eyes. A kind of pointless task. Still, I need the practice. Drive more so.
Should be a blast! Still doing Comics up until the gaming part. Jam pack afternoon until the evening. Pray it all goes according to plan. Hard to tell because it is still “The Morning”.
Here it is. Rihanna, Kanye West, and the legendary Paul McCartney wildin’ out to their “FourFiveSeconds”. For a such a soft track, both RiRi and Yeezus go the extra mile to sell their intensity. Love Paul in the background. He’s so cool.
Still bumping it after a week. Yes, IYRTITL is super cheesy. Or catchy. Don’t even know anymore! Is it genius or lazy? It’s too late for me. I’ve given into Mr. OVO. Bad repetitive lyrics or not. I can’t stop playing this album.
You can review this as a mixtape. It isn’t, nevertheless the argument can be made for either side. This record sounds like scraps or b-sides of something really great. Like picking up a piece of ancient marble cast off of Michelangelo’s David. You won’t remember it afterwards because the final piece of art won’t have an equal. Just sweep the pieces under the rug. This record probably won’t have a lasting impact in the long run, but whatever drops next will.
This isn’t the Drake from four years ago…and I’m perfectly fine with that. Just keep the beats flowing because the instrumentals are generation defining.
Essential Tracks: “Company”, “10 Bands”, “6PM In New York”, “Preach”, “No Tellin”, & “6 God”
